Description
Her Majesty, 2017
oil on canvas, 90 x 50 cm (approx. 35.4 x 19.7 in)
Formerly Hapag-Lloyd's SS Bismarck, launched 1914, was in 1920 handed over to White Star Line as a compensation for sinking HMHS Brittanic. She was then renamed as RMS Majestic, operating under Cunard White Star until sold to scrapping in 1937, but remained in naval service until 1939 as training ship HMS Caledonia. She was sunk after catching fire.
I chose RMS Majestic as the second liner in my ongoing project because I think that ocean liners are not only about Olympic, Titanic, Mauretania or Queen Mary. There were so many beautiful ships constructed and people don't know about them anymore. I would like to introduce these beauties to wider public one day, but - as I already said to a few of you - making an art exhibition requires not only talent (which I think I still lack somehow) but also a definite count of works to show. I cannot set an exhibition based only on five paintings, even if I possessed money required for hiring some place. So it seems that making my work public via DA must suffice for now.
