Addicted to Heroines
He was addicted to heroines:
those golden queens from screens of silver
that lined his shelves in plastic boxes
showcasing their greatest deeds;
and painted whores,
those sirens and saviors,
who stood half naked on shady streets.
They were steel wrapped in petals,
and petals draped in lace,
in their arms lay warmth,
in their hearts lay escape.
He prayed for strong women
that were not so far,
devastatingly far out of reach.
Though still small,
and grateful,
he would shun the sun
and bask in their blessed shadows.
He prayed for someone to stay
whom he could not,
would not,
use up,
not again,
not again.

He vowed not to use angels,
those sweet Nightingales,
who flew away from him in the end – –
but, oh,
to be high on their bravery!
...
He was addicted to heroines,
to the ichor in their veins,
and the lift of their wings.
He was a frightened boy
hiding in the hollows
of the shell of a man,
fearful of fractures
from his weakness.
On the verge of breaking:

Czech Republic
MSc student at the Charles University in Prague
I am a zoologist specializing on vertebrate zoology, I am a part of Fish Evo group focusing on sensory systems and their dynamics in evolution of teleost fishes. In my research, I focus on developmental plasticity of vision in freshwater fish species of central Europe, and also work occassionally with cichlids from west Africa.
I consider art being my hobby which I'm unable to give up on. I discovered the oil painting technique at high school and have been practising since then. Although I was born into a family where no one ever created art (nor was the University graduate in any field - except for father), my parents left me be myself, and I consider myself lucky.
Interests
  • Reading: Emily Voigt: The Dragon Behind the Glass
  • Watching: ... out for monsters under my bed
  • Drinking: pure caffeine
Long time no see.

Well, it clearly has been a long time since I have written the last journal entry (which nobody reads, really). I have little to no time (or I have been lazy as fuck, dear reader) to write almost anything. There has not been any progress with my novel since last year; and although I have finished a big canvas which I worked on for two years (I won't add it here since it's heavily inspired by Dusk river by daRoz and I have no permission from the artist whatsoever), I mostly just practice on still life from time to time.

Skull and Pepper by septima-severa     From Neighbour's Garden by septima-severa

Since my camera literally crashed last November, I barely take photos (and cell camera is pure shit), so instead of hunting for best photos, I am hunting for results in my research. It takes time to isolate the DNA and RNA from tissue, and I am so exhausted afterwards that I cannot even finish my sketches for current paintings. However, the main theme for this year seems to be "mermaids" since I have three paintings in mind (with one partially underway). So, let's see if I can finish at least one of them before I leave for international scientific conference in Groningen, Holland.

CQD: MGY close-up
I am finally satisfied with the outcome of my latest painting and may consider it done. However, this is just a close-up of the bridge and upper decks of sinking RMS Titanic. This time, I used a few years old video of real-time sinking produced by Titanic: Honor and Glory that I absolutely love (to be exact, this particular moment was marked as 1:40 a.m., I think). Those guys are working so hard to bring us the experience of that night, and they have been researching for many years to get even the tiniest details right. Thank you.

Apples
Apples, 2018
oil on canvas
30x40 cm (ca. 11.8x15.74 in)

Sorry for the quality of mobile camera photograph, but I'll have no other option for some time yet.
I used deer antlers with red apples after I heard about red deers loving smell of ripe apples at some lecture a while ago. Before I could upload a photo, however, I got into a hospital with severe pains, and had to undergo a surgery. Since I cannot sit comfortably to paint yet, I at least try to update my gallery and stack other ideas I'd like to put on canvas in near future.

The Port Call
The Port Call, 2018
oil on canvas, 90x50cm (approx. 35.4x19.7in)

Cunarder Aquitania during the WWI when she was fitted as a troopship (and I have found photographs identifying her also as a hospital ship). However, I am a bit more of a dazzle-paint fan (although dazzle concepts did not survive the first war, they were primarily created by artists, not a wartime shipbuilding industry). It was not uncommon that liner companies allowed their liners to be hired by the navy. The general concept with which liners were built in teens and twenties allowed them to become auxiliary service ships during time of conflict.

I chose a model photograph made by Wallace R. MacAskill, Canadian photographer based in Nova Scotia. It captures HMT Aquitania docked at a pier in Halifax.

You're welcome :D I'm starting to like modern poetry that's on DA. It's a way better than that we learnt about at school a long time ago (probably sometimes in the Stone Age) :D
